Antoni van Leeuwenhoek – The Collected Letters
The letters of the Dutch scientist Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (1632-1723) are also his complete scholarly work and offer the only access to his ideas. A part of his letters are translated from Latin to English in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. A comprehensive review of his works however didn’t exist. This edition is an important tool for historians who research Van Leeuwenhoek’s role in the Scientific Revolution, as well as for linguists, specialized in 17th and 18th Century Dutch language. This work is also of use for scientists. Seventeen volumes have been published so far in print. Meanwhile also volume 18 (with Leeuwenhoek’s correspondence for the years 1716-1721) is ready in digital form (to be sent on request). During the Leeuwenhoek year of commemoration 2023, when it will be remembered that Van Leeuwenhoek died three centuries earlier, the last two volumes 18 and 19 will be presented. The first fifteen parts can also be found on dbnl.nl.
