Descartes-Huygens Lecture: Computational Approaches to Early Modern Chemistry
On Thursday 27 February, Dr. Sarah A. Lang (University of Graz) will give the annual Descartes-Huygens lecture on Computational Approaches to Early Modern Chemistry. For the first time, the lecture will be preceded by a workshop for students and academics interested in applying computational approaches in their own historical research, using the Huygens Institute digital collections. While computational approaches require hermeneutic processes rooted in the humanities, their integration into the history of science remains limited despite their potential. Dr. Lang addresses questions about integrating traditional history of science with digital and computational humanities, emphasizing the need for interdisciplinary collaboration and resources for large-scale research. She will also reflect on how digitization politics shape research priorities and underscore the necessity of combining historical and data literacy. For full abstracts, click here.
