Amand Berteloot receives Kruyskamp Award for Ogier of Denmark
Leiden, 12 October 2024 – Amand Berteloot has received the ‘Kruyskampprijs 2024 for text edition’ for his digital edition of the Matter of France story Ogier van Denemerken . The award ceremony took place in the Academiegebouw in Leiden during an afternoon with several laureates awarded by the Maatschappij der Nederlandse Letterkunde.
The jury, which consisted of Berthold van Maris, Nina Geerdink, Roland de Bonth, and Ton van der Wouden, felt that Berteloot had given a modern interpretation of the term edition. ‘He has spent many years studying the backgrounds of the text and the manuscript, editing this Middle Dutch-laced German adaptation of a lost Middle Dutch text and reconstructing the no less than 23734 lines of the Middle Dutch text that presumably underlay it. The result of this monumental work became available online in 2021,’ the jury report said.
The edition can be presented in four parallel versions: a facsimile, a transcription, an annotated Middle Dutch reconstruction and a translation into modern German.
