Biography
Antia Wiersma studied history at the University of Groningen (RuG) and graduated on the annotated scripts of two radio documentaries broadcasted by Radio Noord. These biographical portraits, of two striking women of Groningen, namely Andrea Elkenbracht (pianist and pedagogue) and Clara Asscher-Pinkhoff (children’s book writer and in the Interbellum an important person in Jewish Groningen) were part of a series of broadcasts.
After completing her studies she worked for a number of years in the corporate world as a PR & Marketing officer. Subsequently she was responsible for PR & Marketing of Teylers Museum in Haarlem after which she moved to the Mauritshuis in The Hague, where she served as Head of Communication & Education for almost ten years. In this capacity she was responsible for all communication and educational activities and managed communication for blockbuster exhibitions such as Hans Holbein de Jongere, Dutchmen up close en Dreaming of Italy. From 2010 to September 2017, she worked at Atria, a knowledge institute for gender equality and women’s history. Lastly in the capacity of manager of the Collections, Research and Advice as well as being the deputy director of the institute.
Since 2018, she is a PhD candidate at the RuG where she conducts biographical research on Dr W.H. (Lilian) Posthumus-van der Goot (1897-1989), the first Dutch female economist who held a Phd in the Netherlands and one of the three founders of the International Archives for the Women’s Movement (IAV). She hopes to obtain her doctorate in 2024.
