Verhalen van vier eeuwen gewone Amsterdammers (to be published 2023).
Lodewijk joined the Huygens Institute in 2016, initially as Senior research data manager in the Data Management Department. He studied economics and history at the University of Amsterdam. In 2011 he obtained his doctorate with a dissertation on the development of share trading in seventeenth-century Amsterdam. On this same subject, he subsequently wrote the broad audience-oriented book De bakermat van de beurs, which was translated into English (The Worldās First Stock Exchange, New York: Columbia University Press 2014) and Chinese, among other languages. In 2012, his work was awarded the Dirk Jacob Veegensprijs. As an independent historian, he has since also written De vergeten bankencrisis (2016), about the Netherlands’ first major banking crisis (1921-1925), and De oorlog tegemoet (2020; co-authored with SamuĆ«l Kruizinga), about the Dutch combatants who fought in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939).
